Spain’s rising star, Lamine Yamal, has extended a respectful message to fellow 2025 Ballon d’Or hopeful, Ousmane Dembele, following Spain’s dramatic victory over France in the UEFA Nations League semi-final on Thursday night.
The 17-year-old Barcelona winger played a pivotal role in the intense showdown, netting two goals to help Spain secure a 5-4 win against France in Germany, earning them a spot in the Nations League final against Portugal.
After the match, Yamal spoke to Spanish outlet RTVE, offering praise to his Paris Saint-Germain counterpart. Despite their rivalry for football’s most prestigious individual honor, Yamal maintained a tone of admiration and sportsmanship.
“The best thing is to talk on the pitch,” Yamal stated.
“Dembele is a great player, but we [Spain] are in the [Nations League] final.”
Both Yamal and Dembele are considered top contenders for the 2025 Ballon d’Or thanks to their remarkable performances over the past year.
Yamal, who helped Barcelona lift both La Liga and the Copa del Rey trophies last season, continues to prove his class on the international stage.
Meanwhile, Dembele, aged 28, had an equally impressive campaign with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), claiming titles in the UEFA Champions League, Ligue 1, and the Coupe de France.
