Lagos State Reaffirms Commitment to Ending Underage Gambling

The Lagos State government has once again emphasized its unwavering stance against underage gambling. Through the Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority (LSLGA), the government is intensifying efforts to curb the issue and enforce stricter regulations to protect minors from the negative effects of gambling.

Speaking during a press briefing with industry stakeholders, Mr. Basil Are, the Chief Executive Officer of LSLGA and Chairman of the Federation of State Gaming Regulators of Nigeria, highlighted the government’s zero-tolerance policy for underage gambling. He stressed that safeguarding young individuals from the risks associated with gambling remains a top priority for the Lagos State government.

Strict Regulations and Preventive Measures

To further strengthen its stance, the Lagos State government has been actively implementing and enforcing stringent regulations within the gaming industry. These measures aim to ensure compliance among gaming operators and prevent minors from accessing gambling platforms.

Authorities have also launched public awareness campaigns to educate parents, schools, and communities about the risks of underage gambling. This collaborative approach seeks to eliminate any loopholes that might allow minors to engage in gambling activities.

Africa Gaming Expo 2025: A Step Towards Responsible Gaming

In line with its commitment to responsible gaming, Lagos will host the Africa Gaming Expo (AGE) 2025 from February 25 to 27, 2025, at the Eko Convention Centre, Eko Hotels and Suites. The event is expected to bring together key industry players, regulators, and policymakers to discuss innovations, responsible gaming practices, and the future of the gaming industry in Africa.

Final Thoughts

With the increasing concerns about gambling among minors, the Lagos State government remains resolute in its efforts to implement stronger regulatory frameworks. Through ongoing enforcement, public awareness campaigns, and collaboration with stakeholders, the government aims to create a safer and more responsible gaming environment.
