Lagos Government Shuts Down PWD Rail Crossing to Prevent Accidents
Lagos, Nigeria – The Lagos State Government has announced that the PWD rail crossing will be permanently closed to vehicular traffic starting May 1 to enhance safety for commuters.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, made this known in a statement released to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday.
Why the PWD Rail Crossing is Being Closed
According to the Ministry of Transportation, the PWD rail crossing has been a hotspot for frequent train and vehicle collisions, particularly for motorists traveling towards Ikeja and Maryland.
Following the launch of the Lagos Red Line Train Service, a recent survey conducted by the ministry revealed the urgent need for proactive safety measures. As a result, the Lagos State Government has ordered the closure of the PWD rail crossing to vehicular traffic effective May 1, 2024.
Alternative Routes for Motorists
Motorists who rely on the PWD rail crossing are advised to use the following alternative routes:
? Ikeja Road
? Airport Road
These alternative routes will help minimize disruptions and ensure a smooth transition for road users.
Government’s Commitment to Traffic Management
Commissioner Osiyemi reassured the public that the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will be deployed to manage vehicular movement on adjoining roads, ensuring minimal inconvenience for commuters.
