Lagos State Government Shuts Down Oshodi Pedestrian Bridge Over Safety Concerns

1 minute, 18 seconds Read

The Lagos State Government has announced the immediate closure of the pedestrian bridge connecting Oshodi Bus Terminals 2 and 3, citing concerns over the safety and structural integrity of the bridge.

In a statement released on Friday, the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed that the decision was necessary to protect the lives of pedestrians who rely on the bridge.

Concrete Barriers to Secure Access Points

The commissioner directed the contractor responsible for the original construction of the terminal, through the Office of Infrastructure, to install concrete barriers at all entry points to the bridge.

“This measure is crucial to safeguarding the lives of pedestrians who use the infrastructure,” Osiyemi stated.

Structural Assessment and Repairs Underway

The closure is part of the government’s plan to carry out a comprehensive structural integrity assessment to determine the extent of repairs or reconstruction needed.

To minimize disruptions, Mr. Osiyemi urged pedestrians to utilize an alternative pedestrian bridge located just 30 meters away while the assessment and subsequent repairs are being conducted.

Ensuring Public Safety is Priority

The Lagos State Government reassures residents that the decision reflects its commitment to prioritizing public safety and addressing potential hazards in its infrastructure. Pedestrians and commuters are encouraged to cooperate with these directives for their safety.
