The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) has closed 619 establishments, including mosques, churches, and hotels, due to various environmental infractions in 2024.
During a media briefing in Ikeja, Lagos, the General Manager of LASEPA, Dr. Babatunde Ajayi, highlighted that noise pollution was the primary reason behind 528 of these closures. The enforcement efforts targeted residential properties, hotels, and religious centers under the Environmental Management and Protection Law of 2017.
Dr. Ajayi emphasized the agency’s notable progress in 2024 and revealed plans to further promote environmental consciousness in 2025. Key initiatives include stricter enforcement of noise pollution laws, anti-smoking regulations with designated smoking zones, and proper waste management practices through licensed disposal services.
To enhance public engagement, the agency plans to expand its complaints center, improve digital reporting channels, and increase public awareness campaigns alongside academic publications focused on environmental issues.
