What’s Going On?
The Lagos State Police Command has officially denied recent viral claims on social media suggesting an explosion occurred in the state on Friday. According to Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, no such event took place.
The announcement came through a public statement released on Saturday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin.
“There was no explosion recorded in any part of Lagos State on Friday,” Jimoh clarified.
The Viral Video: What’s the Real Story?
The Commissioner clarified that the video circulating online actually depicts a separate incident — an explosion that happened on April 11 at a CCTV shop located in Computer Village, Ikeja. That event is still under official investigation.

Lagos Police Takes Proactive Measures
CP Jimoh emphasized that the police have intensified surveillance and patrol across the state to ensure public safety and business continuity.
“We are fully committed to safeguarding lives and property across Lagos,” he affirmed.
Residents were encouraged to continue their normal activities without fear or panic, as the situation remains under control.
A Word on Misinformation
The Police Chief also addressed the rise in misleading information on social media. He strongly cautioned bloggers and content creators to refrain from spreading false claims that could create public unrest.
“Sharing unverified news can cause unnecessary fear and anxiety,” said Jimoh.
Related Case: False Claims on Boko Haram Arrests
This announcement follows another recent denial by the Lagos Police regarding false reports from the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), which alleged the arrest of hundreds of Boko Haram suspects in the state. That too was found to be inaccurate.
