The Lagos State Police Command has launched an investigation into a recent explosion at a CCTV dealer’s shop located on Kodesho Street, close to the renowned Computer Village in Ikeja.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer for the state, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed that the explosion occurred around 6:35 p.m.
Hundeyin explained that law enforcement personnel from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit, the Mobile Police Detachment, and other police forces swiftly responded, securing the area to protect lives and property.
“The explosion site and its surroundings were immediately secured by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit, the Mobile Police Detachment, and conventional officers from the Lagos State Police Command,” stated Hundeyin, a chief superintendent of police.
He added that EOD specialists conducted a thorough sweep of the area to neutralize any further risks and to aid in the comprehensive investigation into the cause of the explosion.
Following the incident, Commissioner of Police Owohunwa Idowu visited the scene for a firsthand assessment.
While assuring the public that the situation was under control, the commissioner urged calm, stating, “Residents can go about their lawful activities without fear.”
Preliminary investigations have shown that five individuals, who were inside or near the shop at the time of the blast, sustained varying degrees of injuries. They were promptly transported to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) for medical attention.
“The Command remains committed to ensuring peace and security across the state,” Hundeyin assured.
The police have pledged to provide further updates as their investigation continues.
