IGP and Sanwo-Olu Launch Redevelopment of Ijeh Police Barracks
The Lagos State Government, led by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, alongside the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has officially initiated the redevelopment of the Ijeh Police Barracks in Obalende. This ambitious project aims to provide 2,200 modern housing units for police officers and their families upon completion.
At the groundbreaking ceremony, Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized the significance of the initiative, describing it as a crucial step toward reducing the housing deficit and enhancing the welfare of security personnel in the state.
“Today is monumental for our law enforcement officers as we focus on improving their welfare and ensuring the safety and security of lives and property,” Sanwo-Olu remarked. He further noted the symbolic importance of redeveloping the barracks, which has served as a refuge for countless officers over the years but had deteriorated due to insufficient maintenance.
The governor highlighted that the housing project represents a broader commitment to elevating the standard of living for those who dedicate their lives to protecting the state.
Inspector General of Police Olukayode Egbetokun expressed similar sentiments, describing the event as a pivotal moment in the modernization of the Nigeria Police Force. He extended his gratitude to Governor Sanwo-Olu, the Lagos State Government, and stakeholders for their support in realizing this vision.
In addition to the housing project, the governor also handed over 260 new patrol vehicles and various security tools to the Nigeria Police Force and supporting agencies, further underscoring the state’s dedication to bolstering security operations.
