The Kwara State Police Command has firmly denied circulating claims about the alleged formation of a terror group named ‘Mahmuda’ in Kaiama and Baruten Local Government Areas of the state. According to official police communication, these reports are entirely baseless and misleading.

In a statement issued on Saturday by SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the Police Public Relations Officer in Ilorin, the command emphasized that detailed intelligence operations and ongoing surveillance have not identified any sign of insurgent presence or organized terrorist activity in the mentioned locations.

“We have conducted thorough threat assessments, tactical patrols, and surveillance missions in both Kaiama and Baruten. At no point have our findings supported the presence of any militant formation or fatal attack involving 15 vigilantes, as falsely reported,” said SP Ejire-Adeyemi.

Multi-Agency Operations Secure Border Areas

The Police reassured the public that all communities across Kwara State, especially those near border zones like Kainji Lake National Park, remain under close monitoring and strategic control. The state’s multi-agency security approach—comprising the Nigeria Police Force and allied security outfits—continues to ensure peace and stability across all regions.

Additionally, local leaders such as Vigilante Commanders and District Heads have confirmed that no such violent events have occurred, further invalidating the false claims.

“This misinformation appears designed to incite fear and unrest. We urge both the public and media to avoid sharing unverified content capable of generating unnecessary panic,” the statement added.

Police Urge Vigilance, Responsible Information Sharing

Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property. He encouraged residents to report suspicious activities only via official police communication lines for swift action.
