The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has confirmed the tragic death of one of its personnel, Shuaibu King David, during an escape attempt at the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Koton-Karfe, Kogi State.
According to an official statement by Deputy Controller of Corrections, Umar Abubakar, the officer courageously stood his ground to prevent inmates from escaping, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to safeguarding national security.
Tributes Pour in for the Fallen Officer
Expressing deep sorrow over the incident, Acting Controller-General of Corrections, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, extended condolences to David’s family, colleagues, and loved ones. He emphasized that the officer’s sacrifice would be forever honored in the history of the correctional service.
Efforts to Recapture Escapees and Strengthen Security
In response to the security breach, the NCoS has launched a collaborative operation with security agencies and local communities to track down and recapture fleeing inmates. Authorities have also announced enhanced security measures across all correctional facilities in Nigeria to prevent future jailbreaks.
“The Nigerian Correctional Service remains fully committed to the safety of its officers and the security of custodial facilities nationwide,” Nwakuche stated.
