Security Agencies Recapture Five Fugitives After Kogi Jailbreak
Authorities have confirmed the recapture of five out of twelve inmates who fled the Koton Karfe Medium Security Custodial Centre in Kogi State. The Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) reported that the prison break occurred on Monday, March 24, when awaiting trial inmates allegedly tampered with padlocks in their section, enabling their escape.
Security Forces Respond Swiftly
Following the jailbreak, Acting Controller-General of NCoS, Mr. Sylvester Nwakuche, swiftly mobilized security teams in collaboration with law enforcement agencies and the Senior Special Adviser to the Governor of Kogi State. Their coordinated efforts helped secure the facility and initiate an extensive manhunt for the fleeing prisoners.
“As of now, five escapees have been recaptured, and efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the remaining inmates,” said Abubakar Umar, the Service Public Relations Officer.
Ongoing Investigation and Public Advisory
Authorities have launched a full-scale investigation into the security breach and announced plans for a nationwide security audit of all correctional centers to prevent future incidents.
Meanwhile, security agencies urge the general public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity that could aid in recapturing the remaining fugitives.
