A prime suspect linked to the tragic murder of 65-year-old Jane Okoye, which occurred on April 2, 2025, in the Orile Iganmu community of Lagos, has been captured by detectives from the Lagos State Police Command.
According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, the alleged perpetrator, Abubakar Iliyasu, broke into the victim’s residence, committed the crime, and escaped with her Toyota Sienna vehicle along with other personal items. The victim, who was found in a state of unconsciousness, was rushed to a nearby hospital but was sadly confirmed dead.
Following the grievous incident, the investigation was promptly handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) located in Yaba, Lagos. Homicide officers initiated a comprehensive investigation employing both forensic technology and intelligence-driven tactics. These efforts culminated in the successful arrest of Iliyasu in Ankpa, a town in Kogi State. Authorities also recovered the stolen vehicle intact.
As of now, the suspect is being held at SCID, Yaba, where he is reportedly cooperating with the investigative team.
In an official statement, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering commitment to delivering justice and maintaining public security. He also assured the public that the suspect will face the full weight of the law.
