In a pivotal move toward strengthening grassroots leadership, Governor Dikko Umar Radda of Katsina State has officially sworn in 34 newly elected local government chairmen, urging them to uphold integrity and shun corruption in public office.

A New Dawn for Local Government Administration

During the swearing-in ceremony held on Monday, Governor Radda made it abundantly clear that corruption, inefficiency, and negligence will not be tolerated under his administration. He reminded the newly elected chairmen that they serve as the closest link between the people and the government.

“Your election represents the trust and confidence the people have placed in you,” Radda stated. “Today begins a new chapter for grassroots governance in Katsina.”

Full Local Government Autonomy to Be Implemented

One of the major highlights of the governor’s speech was his firm commitment to implementing full local government autonomy across all 34 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the state.

“Our government is fully committed to enabling local governments to operate independently and responsibly,” he declared.

To reinforce this, the state has established a new department under the Ministry for Local Government Affairs, overseen by the Special Adviser on Inspectorate Matters. This initiative aims to enhance monitoring, performance, and efficient resource management.

Priorities: Infrastructure, Education, and Security

Governor Radda emphasized that the chairmen are expected to ensure inclusive development—from rural infrastructure to education, healthcare, agriculture, clean water, and community security.

“No community should be left behind in our shared vision for progress,” he insisted.

He also highlighted the urgent need for youth empowerment and encouraged chairmen to collaborate strategically to advance education in their LGAs.

Integrity, Accountability, and Service First

The governor urged the chairmen to uphold transparency, accountability, and selflessness, stressing that public office is a platform to serve, not enrich oneself.

“Every kobo allocated must be used for impactful community projects,” he emphasized.

He promised continuous support through financial allocations, technical assistance, and policy guidance, while stressing that accountability must be mutual.

Ganduje Urges Chairmen to Emulate Radda’s Governance Style

Also present at the event was Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who lauded Governor Radda for his exemplary governance.

“You’re lucky to have a governor who believes in the independence and proper management of local governments,” Ganduje said. “Follow his lead—he is not one to waste public resources.”
