Kano Police Nab Three Arms Dealers, Recover 15 Illegal Rifles in Dorayi Babba

In a significant breakthrough against illegal arms trafficking in Nigeria, the Kano State Police Command has successfully apprehended three suspected arms dealers and confiscated a stockpile of unauthorized weapons.

Operation Details and Seizure

The coordinated police operation was conducted on April 10, 2025, in the Dorayi Babba area of Kano State. Law enforcement officers discovered and confiscated:

  • 15 locally fabricated rifles
  • 102 live ammunition cartridges
  • 6 used cartridges possibly linked to previous criminal acts

This proactive security sweep is seen as a major step in combating the proliferation of illegal arms in Northern Nigeria.

Suspects Arrested

According to ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force, the individuals arrested during the operation include:

  • Abdul Sadiq (43 years old)
  • Ahmad Muazu (22 years old)
  • Aliyu Sharif (40 years old)

ACP Adejobi stated,

“The suspects were caught in possession of a substantial cache of illegal firearms. Investigations are ongoing to uncover the origin of these weapons and apprehend their collaborators.”

Public Involvement and Police Action

The police attributed the success of the raid to credible intelligence received from concerned community members, emphasizing the role of public cooperation in enhancing internal security.

The Kano State Police Command, with support from national intelligence, acted swiftly on the tip-off, reinforcing the importance of community-police collaboration.


National Response and Commitment

Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, praised the rapid response by the operatives and assured Nigerians of the Force’s dedication to eradicating arms trafficking and protecting lives.

He affirmed:

“This operation is part of our nationwide strategy to dismantle illegal weapons syndicates and safeguard communities from violent crime.”
