The Kano State Police Command has successfully arrested two suspected vehicle thieves and recovered three stolen cars in separate coordinated operations across different states.

This development was disclosed in an official statement released on Tuesday by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa.

According to the police report, the first case occurred on August 18, 2025, when a woman from Badawa Quarters reported the theft of her 2011 Hyundai Elantra, which was stolen outside a school in Nasarawa GRA, Kano. Following intensive investigation, the car was traced to Zaria, Kaduna State, where it was recovered on August 23, 2025.

Details of the Arrests and Recoveries

The statement further revealed another breakthrough involving the recovery of a Siena Bus (Sky Blue, Registration Number: GAK 556), initially reported stolen in Bauchi State. Acting swiftly on credible intelligence from a good Samaritan, police officers attached to the Wudil Division Patrol Team intercepted the vehicle.

Two suspects, 35-year-old Yunusa Muhammad (popularly known as Yellow) and 23-year-old Abdulwahab Bala, both indigenes of Bauchi State, were arrested in connection with the crime.

In a separate incident, on August 5, 2025, another resident from Sabon Gari, Kano reported that his 2006 Pontiac Vibe was stolen right in front of his residence. Acting on intelligence reports, security operatives later tracked the stolen Pontiac to Adamawa State, where it was eventually recovered.

Police Assurances to the Public

The police authorities confirmed that the arrested suspects would be charged in court after investigations are concluded, while all the recovered vehicles would be handed back to their rightful owners.

Commending the swift efforts of his officers, Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, applauded the level of professionalism displayed in the operations. He further urged members of the public to remain vigilant, continue reporting suspicious movements within their communities, and make use of the dedicated emergency hotlines provided by the Command.

This latest success highlights the commitment of the Kano State Police Command towards ensuring the safety of lives and property, as well as curbing the rising menace of car theft in Northern Nigeria.
