Kano Cancels Monthly Sanitation for March 2025 Ahead of Sallah
The Kano State Government has officially suspended the March 2025 end-of-month environmental sanitation exercise in honor of the upcoming Sallah celebrations. This announcement was made by Dr. Dahiru Mohammad Hashim, the Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, who emphasized that the decision aims to enable residents to concentrate on preparations for the festival.
Reason for Suspension
According to Dr. Hashim, Sallah is a significant religious and cultural event, and the government recognizes the importance of giving residents ample time for their festivities. Additionally, Kano State, a major commercial hub, expects an influx of visitors from across Nigeria during the period. The suspension will ensure that economic and social activities remain uninterrupted.
Sanitation Exercise for Government Institutions to Continue
Despite the suspension for the general public, the commissioner clarified that sanitation exercises for government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), motor parks, and markets will continue as planned on Friday, March 28, 2025.
“While we acknowledge the importance of Sallah, we are equally committed to maintaining a clean and hygienic environment for all. The monthly sanitation exercise will resume in April 2025,” Dr. Hashim stated.
Call for Hygiene and Waste Management Practices
Although the general sanitation exercise has been suspended, Kano residents are strongly encouraged to maintain proper hygiene and responsible waste disposal practices. The government remains dedicated to ensuring a cleaner and healthier environment.
