In a decisive move to safeguard cultural values, the Kano State Film and Censorship Board has officially shut down a recreational playground within the Kano Zoological Garden, following allegations of an indecent dance act that occurred during the recent Sallah festivities.
This action stemmed from an inspection carried out by a monitoring team headed by the Director of Culture, Abubakar Zakari Garun Babba, under the directive of the board’s chairman, Abba El-Mustapha. The committee had been mandated to supervise public entertainment venues throughout the Eid celebration period.
According to official statements, the incident reportedly featured a male and female participant engaging in a dance considered to breach public decency and violate traditional Hausa moral values. The event was flagged by undercover operatives from the Kano State Hisbah Board, who had been strategically deployed at various locations, including the zoo, to monitor compliance with cultural standards during the holiday.
Upon confirmation, the Censorship Board confiscated all sound equipment and materials used in the performance. The female dancer was arrested by Hisbah officials, while the male participant is said to have fled and remains at large.
Chairman Abba El-Mustapha expressed his appreciation to residents of Kano for their unwavering commitment to preserving ethical and cultural integrity. He also commended the collaborative efforts of the Hisbah Corps, the Nigerian Police Force, and the Department of State Services (DSS) for their active roles in upholding public morality throughout the state.
