Kaduna State has been celebrated as the leading state in primary healthcare delivery in Nigeria’s North West region, showcasing Governor Uba Sani’s dedication to advancing the healthcare sector.
The state earned an international accolade along with a $500,000 cash prize during an awards gala organized by the Nigerian Governors’ Forum.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Malam Ibraheem Musa, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Uba Sani, emphasized the state’s robust healthcare structure, which operates through three zonal offices, 23 local government health authority offices, and an extensive network of 1,068 primary healthcare facilities.
The award ceremony, held at the Banquet Hall, Aso Villa, Abuja, was attended by Deputy Governor Dr. Hadiza Balarabe, the Commissioner of Health, and the Executive Secretary of the Primary Health Care Board. Dr. Balarabe, who accepted the award on behalf of the state government, attributed the recognition to Governor Uba Sani’s visionary leadership and substantial investments in the healthcare sector.
“This award signifies more than financial recognition for Kaduna State. It celebrates the hard work of our dedicated healthcare team and their unrelenting efforts to improve healthcare services for our people,” said Dr. Balarabe.
The recognition came under the PHC Leadership Challenge initiative, which commended Kaduna’s strategic investments in healthcare infrastructure and service delivery. The $500,000 prize will further enhance the state’s healthcare programs, ensuring continued improvements in primary healthcare services for its residents.
This award was a collaborative effort of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, UNICEF, the Aliko Dangote Foundation, and the National Primary Health Care Development Agency.
Governor Uba Sani’s administration has prioritized revitalizing the state’s primary healthcare system, setting a benchmark for other states in the country. This award is expected to inspire similar reforms in primary healthcare across Nigeria.
Dr. Balarabe reiterated that the recognition underscores the government’s commitment to improving the well-being of Kaduna residents, further establishing the state as a leader in healthcare delivery.
