Petrol Tanker Accident in Jigawa State: Details of the Incident

According to the Jigawa State Police Command spokesperson, SP Lawan Shiisu, no fatalities or injuries were recorded. However, law enforcement swiftly secured the crash site to prevent residents from attempting to scoop petrol from the spill, mitigating any potential hazards.

The accident involved a Soroman DAF tanker with registration number KUJ 233 XC Abuja, which lost control and collided with another Iveco tanker carrying diesel, registered as NGL 259 XA Yobe State.

Official Statement from Authorities

Providing more insights into the incident, SP Shiisu stated:

“On March 10, 2025, at approximately 1:30 PM, a Soroman DAF petrol tanker, driven by Adamu Usman and en route to Maiduguri, Borno State, lost control and collided with the rear of an Iveco tanker driven by Gambo Hassan. Both tankers were carrying highly flammable fuel. As a result, the impact caused the second tanker to tip over, leading to significant fuel spillage.”

Following the crash, emergency response teams, including the Federal and State Fire Services, swiftly intervened to prevent a potential explosion. The State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and other security agencies were also present to maintain order and protect the area from unauthorized fuel scooping.

Safety Measures Implemented

Authorities have reassured residents that the situation is under control. Traffic diversions were immediately set up to prevent congestion, and the affected area remains under close monitoring to avoid any fire outbreak.

This latest crash in Jigawa State underscores the pressing need for stricter road safety measures and enhanced tanker driver training to prevent similar accidents.
