Jigawa Police Intensify Efforts To Prosecute Fraud And Robbery Suspects

The Jigawa State Police Command is set to prosecute individuals arrested for various crimes, including fraud, cybercrime, armed robbery, and assault, as investigations continue. The command’s recent operations have led to several arrests and the recovery of stolen items such as vehicles and motorcycles.

According to a statement released on Sunday by DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, the command’s Public Relations Officer, the police remain steadfast in their mission to tackle crime in the region.

Key Arrests and Recoveries

One notable case involved the arrest of a 23-year-old suspect, Usman Ahmed, during a patrol on Gagarawa Road on December 14, 2024. Ahmed, a resident of Hotoro Quarters in Gezawa LGA, Kano State, was found with an unregistered Daylong motorcycle and could not provide a valid explanation for possessing it.

Further investigations revealed that Ahmed and his accomplices had lured a 22-year-old motorcyclist, Dini Idris, into transporting them to Sahara Hotel in Gumel. Upon arrival, they attacked Idris, hitting him with a bottle and stabbing him multiple times. The victim is currently undergoing treatment at Gumel General Hospital. Ahmed has since confessed to the crime and remains in custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Dutse.

In another case, the police arrested Mustapha Ibrahim for allegedly stealing an ATM card and fraudulently withdrawing ₦1.5 million. Of the stolen amount, ₦600,000 has been recovered. Two victims have identified Ibrahim as the perpetrator, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend his accomplices.

The police also intercepted a stolen Hilux vehicle with registration number 89 CO 1 at Dankama border in Kaita LGA, Katsina State. The vehicle, which belongs to the primary healthcare cold store in Dutse, has been recovered, and investigations are underway to track the fleeing suspects.
