ISWAP Ambush In Borno State: Four Local Hunters Killed In Ajiri Gongo

Four local hunters tragically lost their lives in a brutal ambush carried out by suspected militants linked to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Dikwa Local Government Area, Borno State.

Security expert Zagazola Makama disclosed the attack via his verified X (formerly Twitter) account. According to his statement, the incident occurred at about 1:10 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, in Ajiri Gongo village, where the hunters had embarked on a routine expedition.

The victims—Bukar Hajjabe (50), Bulama Karim (45), Idrisa Gote (40), and Modu Aisami (38)—were identified as members of the Lawanti Ward Hunters Association. The insurgents not only launched a surprise attack but also seized four pump-action rifles belonging to the hunters.

Ali Kulloma, head of the hunters’ association, officially reported the incident the following day, Sunday, April 21, around 5:45 p.m. Following the report, a coordinated security response was deployed to the area to assess the situation.

The remains of the slain hunters were recovered and taken to Dikwa General Hospital, where medical personnel confirmed them dead. Their bodies were subsequently handed over to their respective families for burial in line with Islamic traditions.

This tragic incident underscores the persistent threat faced by communities in northeastern Nigeria, where insurgent groups continue to endanger lives and disrupt security.
