Insecurity Forces Kwara State College of Nursing Oke-Ode to Relocate to Ilorin

The Kwara State College of Nursing Sciences, Oke-Ode (KWCONOO), located in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, has officially moved its operations, including staff and students, to Ilorin, the state capital. The relocation follows persistent security threats and rising cases of insecurity across parts of the Kwara South Senatorial District, prompting the management to prioritize the safety of its academic community.

According to sources within the institution, the move became necessary after reports of criminal attacks, kidnapping incidents, and community unrest that endangered both students and staff residing within Oke-Ode and its surrounding areas. The college management stated that the safety and well-being of students and personnel remain their utmost priority, hence the decision to temporarily relocate the entire institution to a more secure environment in Ilorin.

The College of Nursing Sciences has been a vital academic center in Kwara State, producing qualified nursing professionals who serve both public and private health institutions. However, recent security challenges have disrupted the peaceful atmosphere required for academic activities, leading to this major administrative shift.

A senior official from the school disclosed that all academic and administrative activities have been transferred to the Ilorin campus, ensuring that learning continues without interruption. Students have been advised to resume at the new location, where security measures have been reinforced in collaboration with local authorities.

The Kwara State Government, under the leadership of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has also been notified of the development. Efforts are reportedly ongoing to restore peace and safety across all affected regions in the state to enable the school’s eventual return to its original site.
