In celebration of the 2025 National Police Week, the Imo State Commissioner of Police, Aboki Dajuma, led a high-level stakeholder forum to reinforce the need for strategic partnerships in boosting public safety across the State. The event, themed “Strengthening Collaborative Security Efforts for a Safer Imo State”, underscored the critical role of community engagement in crime prevention.
Promoting Synergy for Public Safety
Held in Owerri, the gathering brought together a wide array of stakeholders, including traditional leaders, heads of security outfits, faith-based representatives, and civic bodies. The Commissioner highlighted recent security triumphs, such as the neutralization of sit-at-home threats and the arrest of over 2,000 criminal suspects. Additionally, the command recovered 65 illegal firearms, 15 stolen vehicles, and successfully rescued 12 kidnapped individuals.
CP Dajuma praised the backing of Governor Hope Uzodinma, acknowledging that the state government’s unwavering support has significantly contributed to operational achievements.
State Government’s Assurance of Continued Support
Speaking on behalf of the Governor, retired General Joseph Ogbonna applauded the dedication of the security operatives. He assured the public that the administration remains steadfast in empowering agencies to safeguard the peace and well-being of Imo residents.
Empowering Citizens Through Community Policing
Several speakers at the event emphasized the relevance of community-driven intelligence as a cornerstone of modern policing. The widely adopted phrase “See Something, Say Something” was reaffirmed as an essential tool in identifying and reporting suspicious activities in neighborhoods.
With a focus on shared responsibility, the dialogue encouraged residents to play active roles in surveillance and information-sharing, enhancing collaboration with the police.
