IGP orders tough punishment for police officers involved in extortion

Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has denounced alleged cases of extortion involving officers of the Nigeria Police Force in various parts of the country.

The case in question involves officers from the Zone 16 Zonal Headquarters in Yenagoa: ASP Emmanuel Ubong, Inspector Nse Okon, Inspector Adiewere Collins, and Inspector Kuromare Marine, who were accused of extorting ten million naira from a group of young Nigerians.

In a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, it was confirmed that the extorted sum has been recovered, and the officers have been detained and are undergoing an orderly room trial.

The statement reiterated the IGP’s firm stance on zero tolerance for corruption and police misconduct, stressing that the Force treats allegations of extortion and abuse of power with utmost seriousness.

Egbetokun emphasized that any officer, regardless of rank, found guilty of extortion or power abuse will face strict disciplinary actions.

The IGP assured the public that the Nigeria Police Force remains committed to thoroughly investigating all claims against officers found to be in breach of their duties.
