The House of Representatives Committee on the South East Development Commission (SEDC) has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring strict oversight and transparency in managing the N250 billion 2025 budget allocation.
Stringent Monitoring for Effective Implementation
Committee Chairman, Rep. Chris Nkwonta, assured that the allocated funds would be meticulously monitored to address critical infrastructure needs in the South East. This pledge comes in response to growing concerns over the potential mismanagement of the budget.
Following an extensive budget defense session at the National Assembly last week, the committee approved the N250 billion takeoff grant for SEDC. Rep. Nkwonta, who represents the Ukwa East and West Federal Constituency of Abia State, emphasized that the committee has equal oversight authority as the Senate to regulate the commission’s activities and ensure funds are used efficiently.
Commitment to Development and Accountability
“Our goal is to make sure all programs and projects under SEDC are implemented effectively,” Nkwonta stated. He stressed the importance of collaboration with key stakeholders, including state governments, traditional rulers, and local community leaders, to align developmental initiatives with the region’s needs.
Reaffirming the House Committee’s dedication to driving economic growth and regional development, Nkwonta guaranteed that the funds would be allocated transparently to foster progress and prosperity in the South East.
