Heartland Football Club gave their Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) survival hopes a major lift after securing a 2-0 home victory over Kano Pillars at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri on Saturday.
The match saw Samuel Agu emerge as the star of the day, netting both goals to seal the win for Coach Emmanuel Amuneke’s side. Agu struck the first goal just before halftime, giving the Naze Millionaires a deserved lead. His second came from a precise free kick in the 77th minute, doubling the advantage and cementing the crucial three points.
This vital win has propelled Heartland FC to 16th place on the NPFL standings, now holding 38 points after 32 league games. The win intensifies the competition at the lower end of the table as they aim to escape relegation with only a few matches remaining.
On the other hand, Kano Pillars, who have shown consistency throughout the season, remain in 8th position with 44 points from the same number of fixtures.
This result is expected to inject confidence into Heartland’s squad ahead of their remaining fixtures. For Kano Pillars, it’s a missed opportunity to climb higher in the league and challenge for continental spots.
