Gunmen Kill Vigilante Member, Torch Ex-Lawmaker’s House in Rivers State Attack

Emohua Local Government Area, Rivers State, on Wednesday. The deceased, affiliated with the Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Peace and Advisory Committee, was reported.

Suspected cultists carried out the attack, leaving four others injured. The state police spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the event, stating that investigations were ongoing, though details on the injured were pending.

One survivor, known as Eze, recounted how he and his brother narrowly escaped when gunmen accused them of being informants and began shooting. Eze mentioned that after hearing gunfire and spotting attackers linked to a man called “Naked,” he and his brother fled. His brother remains missing.

During the incident, the attackers destroyed the house of Chigozie Woka, a former councillor, who accused “Naked” of leading the raid due to suspicions of cooperation with security forces. Woka described receiving a call about the attack and questioned why his association with security agents warranted such retaliation.

Contrarily, Achor Egberuwho, acting youth chairperson of Omuobu in Ibaa, denied “Naked’s” involvement and accused Woka of sponsoring an attack against him. Egberuwho asserted that “Naked,” a member of the peace committee, could not be responsible for the violence, adding that Woka’s actions almost resulted in “Naked’s” death.
