Tragic Attack in Bokkos LGA Leaves Multiple Casualties
In a distressing incident, at least 10 individuals were fatally shot when unknown gunmen invaded Ruwi village in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State during a wake-keep ceremony.
Details of the Ruwi Village Attack
According to reports obtained by DAILY POST, a local source who wished to remain anonymous disclosed that the attack took place late at night, leading to multiple casualties.
“Currently, up to ten bodies from Ruwi village are lying in a hospital in Bokkos due to the attack,” the source stated.
Police Confirm Incident But Withhold Casualty Figures
The Plateau State Police Command, through its Public Relations Officer, Alfred Alabo, confirmed the assault but refrained from providing an official casualty count.
Speaking on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Adesina, Alabo expressed deep condolences to the victims’ families and the entire community.
“The Commissioner of Police extends his heartfelt sympathies following the regrettable attack that occurred on the night of March 27, 2025, in Ruwi village,” Alabo stated.
Eyewitness Account: Attack Timeline and Response
Reports indicate that at approximately 9:20 pm on March 27, 2025, unidentified armed assailants stormed Ruwi village and opened fire indiscriminately at attendees of a wake-keep. The unexpected gunfire led to the loss of multiple lives, while several other residents sustained injuries of varying severity.
Upon receiving the distress call at around 10:00 pm, the Plateau State Police Command swiftly responded. The Commissioner of Police immediately deployed officers from the Bokkos Division to the scene for intervention.
Enhanced Security Measures in Bokkos LGA
To forestall further attacks, the Commissioner of Police mobilized additional security reinforcements from the State Headquarters. He also instructed the Area Commander of Pankshin to relocate his base to Bokkos for enhanced surveillance and operational supervision.
Additionally, the Commissioner visited the affected community personally, overseeing security deployments and offering condolences to the bereaved families.
Security Agencies Urged to Intensify Investigations
Amid rising concerns over insecurity in Plateau State, residents and community leaders have called on security agencies to intensify investigations and bring the perpetrators to justice.
