Gunmen Abduct Varsity Students in Edo as Defence Minister Highlights Why Southwest Handles Security Better

Residents of the Ihunmudumu community in Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State, have been thrown into fear after armed men reportedly kidnapped three young men from their hostel.
LMSINT MEDIA confirmed that two of the abducted victims are students of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, while the third is a friend who lived with them.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident happened around 6 p.m. on Monday, December 1, 2025. The victims were taken by force and led into a nearby bush, sparking growing anxiety among students, parents, and community members.
Residents say the area has witnessed increasing security threats recently, heightening concerns about safety around student lodges.

Meanwhile, the issue of insecurity across Nigeria became a key topic at the National Assembly as General Christopher Musa (retd), Minister of Defence nominee, addressed lawmakers during his ministerial screening on Wednesday.

General Musa explained why the Southwest region appears to be managing insecurity more effectively than other geopolitical zones. He attributed the progress to coordinated collaboration among the Southwest governors.

According to him, when leaders unite and operate with a single security mission, combating crime becomes much easier and sustainable. He urged other regions to adopt a similar collective approach to strengthen national security efforts.

His remarks have sparked discussions about replicating the Southwest security model—such as the Amotekun initiative—to improve safety across Nigeria.
