Guinness Nigeria Announces Leadership Changes on the Board

Guinness Nigeria Plc has unveiled significant changes to its Board of Directors, reinforcing its dedication to corporate governance, strategic leadership, and business growth.

This announcement, released by Abidemi Ademola, the company’s Legal Director and Company Secretary, highlights both leadership transitions and new appointments aimed at enhancing the company’s long-term success.

Outgoing Board Members and Their Contributions

According to the statement:

  • Dr. Omobola Johnson, who has led the Board as Chairperson since July 2021, will retire on January 28, 2025, upon completing her nine-year tenure. Under her leadership, Guinness Nigeria achieved consistent revenue growth and strengthened its position as an industry leader. The Board and management express deep gratitude for her visionary leadership and contributions.
  • Ngozi Edozien, another key board member, stepped down on November 27, 2024, after completing her tenure. The company acknowledged her immense dedication, strategic direction, and positive impact throughout her service.

New Board Appointments and Their Expertise

Guinness Nigeria has also confirmed the appointment of new Board members to drive its next phase of innovation and market leadership.

  • Prof. Fabian Ajogwu (SAN) will assume the role of Board Chair effective January 29, 2025. A seasoned corporate governance expert and legal scholar, Prof. Ajogwu has been a Board member since 2018 and has chaired crucial committees, including the Nominations, Governance, and Remuneration Committee. His wealth of experience and leadership acumen position him to steer Guinness Nigeria toward sustainable business growth.
  • Olusola Oworu will join as an Independent Non-Executive Director on February 1, 2025, pending shareholder approval. With over 30 years of experience in finance, consulting, and public service, she brings strategic insight and operational expertise to the Board.
  • Bola Adesola, a renowned banking executive with 33+ years of experience, will also assume the position of Independent Non-Executive Director on February 1, 2025, subject to shareholder approval. Recognized for her leadership in corporate governance, gender advocacy, and business strategy, she is expected to be a valuable addition to the company.
