Real Madrid’s Carlo Ancelotti Challenges Guardiola’s Champions League Stance

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti believes Pep Guardiola is intentionally downplaying Manchester City’s prospects of progressing to the Champions League round of 16. The Spanish giants secured a 3-2 advantage over City, who have been inconsistent this season, currently sitting fourth in the Premier League. The crucial second-leg clash is set for Wednesday at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Speaking to the press, Ancelotti questioned Guardiola’s claim that City’s chances were minimal.

“He doesn’t truly believe that. Tomorrow, I’ll ask him before the game – do you really think you only have a one per cent chance?” Ancelotti remarked during a news conference.

“He knows they have a stronger chance. But from our side, we don’t assume we have a 99 per cent chance either. We acknowledge our slight advantage, and we must capitalize on it by replicating our strong performance from the first leg.”

Injury Update and Referee Concerns

Ancelotti confirmed that defender Antonio Rudiger is fit to start, while Lucas Vazquez will remain on the bench due to fitness concerns. He also voiced frustration over Spanish refereeing decisions, particularly after several controversial calls against Real Madrid in recent La Liga matches.

“Statistics speak volumes. In Europe, there is less controversy regarding refereeing decisions and fewer VAR interventions,” Ancelotti stated. “The Champions League brings together top referees from different countries, ensuring a higher standard of officiating.”

Valverde Defends Bellingham’s Passion

Jude Bellingham, who was sent off for dissent during Real Madrid’s 1-1 draw against Osasuna in La Liga, received backing from his teammate Federico Valverde. The Uruguayan midfielder expressed admiration for Bellingham’s determination and fighting spirit.

“I want players who give their all on the pitch. Jude has that drive—he always wants to win, always fights. This time, he got a red card, but I love his passion and intensity,” Valverde said.

The highly anticipated second-leg showdown at the Bernabeu will determine who secures a spot in the Champions League quarterfinals.
