Gov Zulum Calls for Sustained Military Action in Kirawa Community Reclaimed from Insurgents

Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, has appealed to the Nigerian military to intensify and sustain their operations in border communities, particularly in Kirawa, following the recent withdrawal of Cameroonian troops from the area. The governor made this appeal to ensure that Boko Haram insurgents do not exploit the vacuum left by the withdrawal to launch renewed attacks on the town.

Kirawa, a border community located in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, has a long and painful history with terrorism. The town was once captured by insurgents during the height of Boko Haram’s reign of terror in northeastern Nigeria. However, with combined efforts of Nigerian and Cameroonian forces, the area was successfully reclaimed, restoring peace and enabling residents to return to their ancestral homes.

Governor Zulum, during his visit to Kirawa, emphasized the strategic importance of maintaining continuous military presence in the region. He stated that the absence of cross-border troops could embolden insurgents to regroup, which may threaten the fragile peace and stability that has recently been achieved.

He further commended the Nigerian Armed Forces for their gallant efforts and sacrifices in restoring order across the state. However, he reiterated that sustained counter-insurgency operations are essential to safeguard lives, property, and ensure that the people of Gwoza and its surrounding communities can continue rebuilding their livelihoods without fear of renewed attacks.

According to the governor, the collaboration between Nigeria and Cameroon has played a critical role in the success of the joint regional military campaign against terrorism. Zulum therefore called for renewed partnerships, intelligence sharing, and proactive surveillance across the borders to prevent insurgents from re-establishing operational bases.

He also assured the residents of Kirawa that the Borno State Government remains committed to improving security and providing humanitarian assistance to all affected communities. Zulum added that the government will continue to partner with federal agencies and international organizations to rebuild destroyed infrastructure, schools, and health facilities, thereby promoting lasting peace and stability in the region.

The withdrawal of Cameroonian forces from Kirawa marks a turning point that requires urgent strategic responses. Analysts believe that maintaining a strong Nigerian military presence will not only deter terrorists but also strengthen regional security collaboration in the Lake Chad Basin area.

Governor Zulum’s proactive stance once again underscores his commitment to ending insurgency in Borno State and ensuring that peace is fully restored across the northeastern region of Nigeria.
