Gov Otti Urges NYSC Members To Support Abia's Development

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has urged the 2025 Batch ‘A’ Stream 1 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members to make meaningful contributions to the development of their host communities during their service year in the state. Governor Otti made this call at the swearing-in ceremony for the newly deployed corps members, which took place at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Umunna, Bende Local Government Area, on April 25, 2025.

Represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Nwaobilor Ananaba, Dr. Otti underscored the importance of the NYSC scheme in the nation’s development. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening the scheme and ensuring it fulfills its vital role in nation-building.

Governor Otti also extended his well-wishes to the newly appointed NYSC Director General, Brigadier General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, expressing hope for a successful tenure.

Mrs. Gladys Adama, the NYSC State Coordinator for Abia, addressed the corps members, emphasizing that the orientation course is designed to instill discipline and leadership qualities. She explained that the corps members would be deployed across all 17 Local Government Areas of Abia, particularly in rural areas where their contributions are most needed. This initiative is part of the State Government’s new Abia agenda for strategic development.

Mrs. Adama thanked Governor Otti for his continued support, including the ongoing rehabilitation work at the camp. However, she appealed for the relocation of the NYSC State Secretariat to a more conducive office space and for the payment of monthly stipends to corps members deployed in the state.
