Fresh reports have surfaced, suggesting that former Nigerian President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, is now preparing to join the race for the 2027 presidential election.

According to an exclusive report by LMSINT MEDIA, there have been growing discussions surrounding Jonathan’s potential return to power, especially following strategic moves initiated by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aimed at revitalizing its leadership ahead of the 2027 general elections.

An individual closely aligned with the former President — who hails from Bayelsa State — reportedly disclosed to Vanguard on Wednesday that Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, a prominent PDP stalwart, has allegedly consented to enter the presidential race.

The source, speaking with authority, revealed that a comprehensive strategy to reintroduce Jonathan as the party’s presidential candidate is already well underway. The former leader has reportedly agreed to vie for the presidency under the PDP platform.

In the source’s words, Jonathan’s motivation to re-contest stems from a strong desire to tackle the increasing levels of poverty, nationwide economic hardship, and the deepening suffering experienced by citizens under the administration of the All Progressives Congress (APC), which has been in power since 2015 and remains the ruling party going into 2027.

Additionally, it was revealed that Jonathan has discreetly begun consultations with influential political figures within and outside the PDP, particularly key stakeholders in Nigeria’s northern region. These consultations are part of efforts to consolidate support and build a strong coalition ahead of the election season.

As part of his outreach, Jonathan is said to have met with former military President, General Ibrahim Babangida (Rtd.). The meeting reportedly took place last weekend at General Babangida’s Hilltop residence in Minna, Niger State. During the visit, Jonathan is believed to have disclosed his intention to contest for only one term, positioning himself as a transitional leader committed to national recovery and unity.

Meanwhile, Mallam Ibrahim Abdullahi, the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, confirmed ongoing discussions within the party focused on bringing Jonathan back into active political leadership. He emphasized that a significant number of Nigerians have begun to acknowledge the error of not re-electing Jonathan in 2015.

“Many citizens now recognize the enormous developmental strides Jonathan achieved during his tenure. People across the country are not just expressing regret; they are publicly apologizing and calling on him to return to help rescue Nigeria from the prevailing crisis,” Abdullahi remarked.
