German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier landed in Nigeria on Tuesday evening, December 10, 2024, for a high-profile state visit, which will extend until December 12.
He received a warm welcome at Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport by Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
President Steinmeier is set to meet with Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and ECOWAS Commission President, Alieu Omar Touray, to discuss regional cooperation and partnership opportunities.
The visit will also take him to Lagos, where he plans to connect with key business leaders, tour a start-up hub, and meet renowned cultural figures, including Dr. Nike Okundaye and Nobel Laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka.
A highlight of his Lagos tour will be exploring urban development projects, with an emphasis on tackling environmental and social issues. The visit aims to enhance German-Nigerian relations and promote collaborative efforts across various sectors.
