The recent ceasefire between Israel and Hamas has been hailed as a positive step toward peace by former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani. In his statement, Sani emphasized the need for the international community to provide substantial support to those affected by the prolonged conflict.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Sani shared his thoughts:

“After 15 months of Israeli bombardment, the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas is a welcome development.
The world must step in to help the orphans, widows, widowers, and other victims of this horrific tragedy to rebuild their lives. Kudos to Qatar.”

Key Developments in the Ceasefire Agreement

  1. Release of Hostages and Prisoners:
As part of the ceasefire terms, Hamas released three Israeli hostages: Romi Gonen, Emily Damari, and Doron Steinbrecher. These women were the first of 33 hostages to be exchanged for 1,904 Palestinian prisoners currently detained in Israeli facilities.
  2. Mediation Efforts:
The three-stage ceasefire, brokered on Wednesday, marked the culmination of months-long negotiations spearheaded by the United States, Egypt, and Qatar. These efforts were instrumental in bridging gaps between the conflicting parties.

International Call to Action

Sani highlighted the dire situation faced by victims of the Gaza conflict, urging global intervention to aid in their recovery. The ceasefire brings hope, but addressing the humanitarian aftermath is crucial for lasting peace.

The ceasefire agreement represents a vital moment of reprieve after months of devastating conflict. However, rebuilding lives and fostering long-term peace will require unwavering commitment from the international community.
