The FRSC Anambra Command will begin enforcing compliance with speed limit devices and passenger manifests from March 1. Non-compliant transporters will face sanctions.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra Command, has announced that from March 1, it will begin enforcing strict compliance with passenger manifests and the installation of speed limit devices among transporters and fleet operators.
This directive was disclosed by Mrs. Joyce Alexander, the Anambra Sector Commander, during a media briefing in Awka, where she provided updates on the command’s performance in the 2024 ‘Operation Zero’ initiative.
Low Compliance and Safety Concerns
Mrs. Alexander expressed concern over the low adoption of speed limit devices by commercial transporters, particularly fleet operators. She also highlighted cases where some transporters tamper with the devices, undermining road safety regulations.
Furthermore, she pointed out that many inter-state commercial drivers and fleet operators fail to maintain proper passenger manifests, which should include a blood group column as mandated by law. This requirement is crucial for identifying passengers and facilitating timely medical intervention in case of accidents.
Strict Enforcement Begins March 1
According to the sector commander, the FRSC will intensify enforcement efforts in Anambra, including special intervention patrols to inspect vehicles.
“Any transporter or fleet operator found violating the rules on speed limit devices and passenger manifests will face arrest. The FRSC will no longer tolerate non-compliance with road safety regulations,” Alexander stated.
She emphasized that strict adherence to these measures is necessary to prevent road crashes and safeguard lives and property in Anambra.
Call for Compliance and Road Safety Awareness
Mrs. Alexander urged drivers to ensure passengers fill out accurate information in the manifests before embarking on any trip. She also commended the Anambra State Government for its ongoing road construction and rehabilitation projects, noting that improved infrastructure would significantly reduce road accidents.
Additionally, she appealed to all road users to obey traffic rules, emphasizing that road safety is a shared responsibility.
Media’s Role in Road Safety Awareness
The sector commander acknowledged the media’s role in educating the public on road safety. She expressed appreciation for the partnership between the FRSC and media outlets, which has been instrumental in raising awareness about highway safety protocols.
