A tragic road traffic accident has claimed the lives of four individuals along the Lokoja–Ajaokuta highway in Kogi State.
Confirming the incident on Monday, the Kogi State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Tenimu Etuku, disclosed that four passengers lost their lives on the spot as a result of the impact.
According to the FRSC commander, eleven other occupants of the commercial bus sustained various degrees of injuries. The injured victims were immediately attended to and taken to nearby medical facilities for urgent treatment.
Preliminary findings by road safety officials indicated that the bus rammed into the parked truck, leading to the severe casualties recorded. Emergency responders from the Federal Road Safety Corps were mobilized to the scene to manage traffic, rescue victims, and clear the obstruction to restore vehicular movement along the busy highway.
The Lokoja–Ajaokuta road is a major route frequently used by commuters and commercial drivers. Road safety authorities have continued to advise motorists to exercise caution, especially on highways where stationary vehicles pose serious risks to unsuspecting road users.
The Federal Road Safety Corps reiterated its call for drivers to maintain safe speeds, remain attentive, and ensure strict compliance with traffic regulations to prevent avoidable road tragedies.
