In a dramatic turn of events in Sabon Garin Safana, a community in Dutsinma Local Government Area of Katsina State, security forces successfully rescued five kidnapped victims after engaging in a gun battle with suspected armed bandits.
The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Sunday, was confirmed by Zagazola Makama, a well-known Nigerian security analyst who often reports on terrorism and banditry in northern Nigeria.
Bandits Raid Katsina Village at Night
According to Makama, the attack began around 2:15 AM when the armed men invaded the village under the cover of darkness. Most residents were still asleep when the criminals struck, forcibly abducting seven people, including two infants.
“At approximately 2:15 AM, the gunmen stormed the community and kidnapped the victims while residents were still asleep,” Makama wrote on his verified page.
Upon receiving a distress call, security operatives immediately mobilized to the scene and engaged the attackers in a heavy exchange of gunfire.
Five Hostages Rescued, One Killed in the Crossfire
Following the intense confrontation, five victims were safely rescued. They were identified as:
- Abdullahi Usman (40 years old)
- Asma’u Abdullahi (20 years old)
- Safiya Abdullahi (1 year old)
- Sumayya Yahuza (20 years old)
- Fatima Yahuza (1 year old)
Fortunately, all rescued victims were found unharmed and have since been reunited with their families.
Sadly, the incident also claimed the life of Ibrahim Sale, aged 30, who was reportedly killed by the assailants during the gunfight.
Search Still Ongoing for Remaining Victims
As of the time of this report, two victims are still unaccounted for, and efforts are ongoing by the security personnel to locate and safely recover them. The authorities have assured residents that intelligence-gathering and surveillance are being intensified across the area.
