Fire Outbreak Razes Six Shops in Maiduguri’s Damboa Motor Park, Goods Valued at N4.95 Million Lost

A devastating fire erupted in the early hours of Wednesday at Damboa Motor Park in Maiduguri, Borno State, leaving six shops completely destroyed alongside goods and assets worth approximately N4.95 million.

The inferno, which began around 4:00 a.m., impacted several local businesses. Among those affected were a POS transaction point, a barbershop, a cosmetics retail outlet, a shoe repair stand, and a motor spare parts shop. These businesses provided daily services to residents within the motor park vicinity.

In a report shared on Thursday by renowned security expert Zagazola Makama via his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, he identified the victims as follows:

• Nura Ahmad, the POS service provider
• Yakubu Musa, the barbershop owner
• Usman Salisu, the shoe cobbler
• Musa Hamza, the cosmetics trader
• Ibrahim Ali, the spare parts dealer

Preliminary assessments by local authorities have linked the origin of the fire to a possible faulty electrical connection, a common hazard in many commercial hubs where wiring standards are often compromised.

Fortunately, personnel from both the Federal Fire Service and the Borno State Fire Service acted promptly, successfully containing the fire and preventing further spread to nearby shops and properties. In addition, officers from the Nigerian Police Force were deployed to the location to prevent theft and maintain public order as recovery efforts commenced.

The appropriate authorities have since launched a thorough investigation to determine the exact cause of the blaze and evaluate further risks to the area.

This tragic incident underscores the recurring threat of fire outbreaks in densely populated business districts, especially where electrical safety protocols are not strictly adhered to.
