A devastating fire outbreak has razed a residential property in the Ogbomoso area of Oyo State, causing significant damage estimated to be worth millions of naira.
According to reports obtained by LMSINT MEDIA, the fire broke out on Thursday at Ile-Labe Abepe area of Ogbomoso, affecting a private residential structure comprising eight rooms.
Confirming the incident, Hon. Maruf Akinwande, Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, issued a formal statement detailing the emergency response.
He stated, “On Thursday, 15th May 2025, at exactly 14:10hrs, our agency received a distress call from one Alhaja Sabiatu reporting a house engulfed in flames at the mentioned location. By 14:11hrs, a fire truck and a five-personnel crew led by ACFS Odewabi were immediately dispatched to the scene.”
“Upon arrival, our team encountered a privately owned residential building already overtaken by flames. Immediate firefighting actions were taken, and within minutes, the fire was brought under control. Thankfully, no casualties were recorded, and several valuable properties were salvaged by the intervention of the fire service team,” Akinwande noted.
The fire was reportedly caused by unattended cooking gas that ignited nearby flammable materials.
In a follow-up comment, Zonal Commander of the Ogbomoso Fire Station, CFS Seyi Awoyemi, emphasized the importance of proper handling of domestic gas appliances. He urged residents to remain vigilant and attentive when using cooking gas and other potentially hazardous kitchen materials at home to prevent similar tragedies.
