FG Pledged To Put An End To Kidnapping, Banditry, And Terrorism—Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to combat kidnapping, banditry, and other associated crimes throughout the nation.

He said this Saturday during the Federal University of Dutsinma’s 9th Convocation ceremony in Katsina State.

However, the President stated that civilians can also contribute to the fight against insecurity by giving security personnel information that will help them in their efforts.

On behalf of Federal University, Dutste, Jigawa State, Vice Chancellor Prof. Abdulkarim Mohammed, the President urged young people to take advantage of the Nigerian Loan Scheme, which has disbursed more over N70 billion in loans. Tinubu reminded Nigerians that Nigeria and Nigerians are what will improve the country, not the president or those in positions of authority.

“I want to reassure all Nigerians that the administration is totally dedicated to fighting and defeating all criminal activities in Nigeria, including banditry, abduction, and terrorism.

But we all share responsibility for security. President Tinubu said, “I implore all Nigerians to cooperate with the government by providing security agents with pertinent information about suspicious individuals, miscreants, and other criminal elements.” In his earlier remarks, Prof. Armaya’u Bichi, the vice chancellor of Federal University Dutsinma, outlined the institution’s difficulties, citing insecurity as the main issue.

“As we are aware, the security situation in and around Dutsin-Ma in recent times has forced us to abandon the main campus and crowd ourselves at the university’s take-off campus, which is sorely lacking in structures and facilities to accommodate the 14 faculties and a large number of staff and students,” Bichi said.

In addition, Dandeson Douglas, the Chairman of Convocation and Chancellor of FUDMA, King Jaja of Opobo, stated that the organization is actively working to increase its Internally Generated Revenue.

The university has set up Pure Water, a Microfinance Bank, and a Consultancy Unit. The Chancellor of the university emphasized the need to enhance the institution’s internally generated revenue (IGR) through initiatives like a factory, primary and secondary schools, and a printing press. He stated his commitment to collaborating with the Federal Government, philanthropic organizations, stakeholders, private entities, NGOs, and alumni to secure support for the university’s needs.

Douglas also raised concerns about ongoing security issues affecting the student community, stating that it is his duty as Chancellor to highlight these challenges. He noted that the security situation has severely hindered activities at the main campus, forcing events, including the Convocation Ceremony, to take place at a less equipped take-off campus.

According to PUNCH Online, FUDMA graduated a total of 297 postgraduate students, including 18 with Ph.Ds, 226 with Master’s degrees, and 53 with Professional Diplomas. Among the 4,282 undergraduate graduates, 44 achieved first class, 872 received second class upper, 2,273 earned second class lower, 1,076 obtained third class degrees, and 17 graduated with pass degrees.
