FG Advances Extradition Process for Simon Ekpa to Nigeria

Christopher Musa, Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), has disclosed that the Federal Government has submitted most of the necessary documentation to facilitate Simon Ekpa’s extradition from Finland to Nigeria.

Simon Ekpa, a well-known pro-Biafra activist and secessionist, was apprehended by Finnish law enforcement on November 21, following accusations of spreading terrorist propaganda on social media.

Shortly after his arrest, a district court in Päijät-Häme, Finland, ordered his imprisonment on charges related to his controversial online activities.

During a 2024 year-end review program aired on Channels Television, Musa shared updates on the case.

“Well, I’m sure he is cooling off somewhere. Legal action is going to be taken accordingly. I don’t want to say much about that, but I’m happy he has been arrested,” Musa said.

He further confirmed that the Federal Government has made significant progress by forwarding the majority of the required documents to the Finnish Government. “So, I’m sure the right thing will be done,” he added.

The ongoing case has drawn significant attention due to Simon Ekpa’s influence on social media and his ties to separatist movements in Nigeria. His arrest marks a critical step in addressing the security challenges posed by his actions.
