The Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC), operating under the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), has issued a directive for the demolition of 24 unlawfully constructed two-storey buildings situated directly on a water channel in Guzape, Abuja.

As reported by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the Coordinator of AMMC, Felix Obuah, made the announcement during an official inspection of several locations within the capital city. He was accompanied by senior council personnel during the tour.

Obuah revealed that the disputed buildings, developed by Cityscape Estate on Plot 4851, were erected without obtaining the necessary permits and development approvals.

Calling the development a serious violation of Abuja’s urban planning standards, Obuah stated emphatically that the unauthorized structures would be dismantled to serve as a cautionary example for other potential violators.

“We have moved machines, construction tools, and demolition equipment to the site. These unauthorized buildings, lacking proper permits, will be brought down,” Obuah declared.

He further emphasized that any other structures found to be without legitimate approvals—especially those located on water channels or close to major road corridors—would face similar demolition actions.

“It’s not going to be business as usual anymore. Our mission is to enforce the Abuja master plan strictly,” he stated.

In addition, Obuah warned that AMMC staff members found to be complicit in the illegal approvals or negligent oversight would face strict disciplinary measures. He affirmed that the council will not tolerate any internal sabotage or administrative laxity moving forward.

In response to the situation, AMMC granted a two-week grace period at the request of the developer to allow for the voluntary removal of the violations.

The developer, Kadiri Obaidi, admitted the breaches and accepted accountability, noting that some aspects of the unauthorized development resulted from the independent actions of the estate’s subscribers.
