Manchester United and England legend Wayne Rooney has issued a strong warning to Arsenal and Manchester City as the Premier League 2025-26 season unfolds. According to Rooney, the top two teams in the league should remain vigilant, as Liverpool might still emerge as genuine title contenders.
As the current season approaches the Christmas period, Arsenal are currently two points ahead of Manchester City, signaling a tight race at the summit. Meanwhile, Liverpool appears to be regaining momentum after a shaky start. Under Arne Slot’s management, Liverpool has gone six consecutive games unbeaten since a 4-1 defeat to PSV in the Champions League, climbing to fifth place in the standings.
Rooney, a former Manchester United and England striker, emphasized that Liverpool should not be underestimated. He said:
“Liverpool, if they hit a good run and start winning consistently, you simply cannot rule them out. With the right support and momentum, they can definitely influence the title race.”
Despite this, Rooney still sees Arsenal and Manchester City as the primary favorites for the league crown:
