Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has openly admitted that his club is unlikely to lift the English Premier League trophy this season, despite a promising start to the campaign.

The Argentine international, who plays a vital role in Liverpool’s midfield setup, made it clear that the defending champions are no longer realistic contenders for the league crown. His comments come at a time when the Premier League title race is becoming increasingly competitive, with other clubs showing stronger consistency.

Under the leadership of Arne Slot, Liverpool began the new season in impressive fashion, recording five consecutive victories at the early stage of the campaign. That run initially raised optimism among supporters and pundits, suggesting the Reds could successfully defend their league title.

However, as the season progressed, Liverpool struggled to maintain that momentum. A combination of inconsistent performances and dropped points has seen them fall significantly behind the leading pack. Following Arsenal’s dramatic 3–2 victory over Bournemouth on Saturday, Liverpool now face a challenging away fixture against Fulham, while sitting 15 points behind the league leaders.

Speaking in an interview with Sky Sports, Mac Allister delivered a brutally honest assessment of Liverpool’s situation. He acknowledged that the gap between his team and the top contenders is no longer bridgeable based on current form and results.

According to the World Cup winner, Arsenal are currently enjoying a strong phase, showing both tactical discipline and attacking efficiency. He also pointed to Manchester City as another serious contender, noting their proximity to the top and their consistent level of performance throughout the season.

Mac Allister emphasized that Liverpool’s struggles go beyond just league position. He admitted that the team has not matched the required standards in terms of overall displays or match outcomes, making a title comeback unrealistic.

In his words, while it was difficult to admit, the reality of the situation is clear. Liverpool, at this stage, do not possess the consistency or competitive edge needed to surpass Arsenal or Manchester City in the title race.

His comments reflect a growing acceptance within the squad that the focus may now shift toward finishing the season strongly rather than chasing an unlikely Premier League triumph.
