EPL: Nicky Butt Expresses Deep Concern Over Amorim’s ‘Scary’ Treatment of Kobbie Mainoo

Former Manchester United legend Nicky Butt has voiced his growing concern about what he describes as the “scary and troubling” treatment of rising star Kobbie Mainoo under manager Ruben Amorim.

Butt stressed that Mainoo, considered one of the brightest homegrown talents at Old Trafford, has not been given the level of support, development, and consistent involvement that a player of his quality deserves.

Despite Mainoo’s impressive performances and his growing reputation as one of the Premier League’s most exciting young midfielders, Butt regrets that the youngster continues to be sidelined and kept out of Amorim’s starting lineup. He emphasized that this situation is not only worrying for Mainoo’s progress but also damaging to Manchester United’s long-term midfield strategy.

According to Butt, the club must protect exceptional youngsters like Mainoo by giving them structured playing time, mentorship, and clear tactical roles. He noted that failing to properly manage a gifted academy graduate could lead to stagnation, low confidence, and dissatisfaction, which ultimately harms both the player and the team.

The Manchester United icon insisted that Mainoo has shown intelligence, maturity, and technical strength far beyond his age. Therefore, seeing him repeatedly overlooked is something he considers “very alarming” and “not fitting for a player created by the club’s system.”

Butt added that Old Trafford has a long tradition of trusting academy players, and ignoring that heritage could negatively impact future talents hoping to break into the first team.

He called on Amorim and the coaching staff to reassess their current squad decisions and ensure that Mainoo receives the respect, attention, and regular involvement he truly merits.
