Manchester City’s head coach, Pep Guardiola, has made a bold statement about Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta’s chances of lifting the English Premier League (EPL) trophy. According to Guardiola, Arteta’s success—if Arsenal eventually clinches the league title—will be largely because of the club’s massive spending in the transfer market rather than tactical brilliance or hard work alone.

He went on to make similar remarks about other rival clubs, saying:

“It’s like Liverpool. If Arne Slot wins the league again, people will say it’s because he spent big. This narrative doesn’t only apply to Manchester City; it’s the same story for everyone at the top level.”
