EPL: Enzo Maresca Explains Why Manchester United Defeated Chelsea 2-1

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has shed light on the reasons behind his team’s 2-1 defeat against Manchester United in their Premier League clash on Saturday at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils took an early advantage in the first half, scoring two crucial goals before halftime. The situation became more difficult for Chelsea after their goalkeeper Robert Sánchez was shown a red card, leaving the Blues a man down and struggling to regain momentum.

Although Chelsea pushed harder in the second half, they could only find a consolation goal through Trevoh Chalobah. Manchester United midfielder Casemiro also received a red card late in the game, but the visitors failed to capitalize on the numerical balance that followed.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the encounter, Maresca admitted that his side were far from their best during the opening minutes at Old Trafford. He described the first quarter of an hour as the lowest point in Chelsea’s season so far.

“It wasn’t good enough from us as a team. The first 15 minutes were the worst we have played all season,” Maresca explained.

The Chelsea boss further highlighted how United’s intensity and tactical pressure overwhelmed his side in the first half. With 10 men on the pitch after Sánchez’s dismissal, the Blues found it even more challenging to regain control.

“We struggled badly in the first half. It is always difficult when you are reduced to ten players. Manchester United were fully prepared for the match, and they put us under consistent pressure,” Maresca added.

This defeat has raised more questions about Chelsea’s consistency under Maresca and their ability to compete against top Premier League rivals. United, on the other hand, took advantage of their early dominance to secure all three points, despite also being reduced to ten men later in the game.
