Newcastle United manager, Eddie Howe, has shared his thoughts on Liverpool’s new striker, Hugo Ekitike, ahead of their Premier League clash at St. James’ Park. Howe believes that the French forward will be a major threat in the Premier League this season and admits he has admired him for years.
Speaking during his pre-match press conference before Newcastle’s home tie against Liverpool on Monday, Howe emphasized that Ekitike possesses the qualities to excel in England’s top flight.
The French striker wasted no time making his mark, as he scored on his debut when Liverpool defeated Bournemouth 4-2 last Friday. Ekitike’s immediate impact means he is now expected to lead the line for the Premier League champions in their highly anticipated clash against Newcastle.
Howe, when asked about the young forward, said:
“I think there is no doubting that I really like Hugo and have done for a number of years. He is someone we have tracked for a long time. He is intelligent, and I think he’s got a load of qualities that will serve him really well in the Premier League. Our job will be to keep him quiet and try to control him, but certainly, he is going to be a threat this year.”
This matchup promises to be an exciting one as Newcastle will be looking to contain a player that their coach has openly admired and once considered bringing to Tyneside
